Art in Motion

Artist:Angie Bentivegna

9/7-9/30

This September, fine artist Ange Bentivegna will be exhibiting two collections of her work in two gallery spaces at Mulberry Art Studios. Nature: Art in Motion will showcase images of all that is alive and beautiful, while Warriors focuses on images of women. The exhibitions will open with First Friday Reception on Sept 7 from 5pm until 9pm. Mulberry Art Studios is located in historic downtown Lancaster and holds gallery hours on weekdays from 10am until 4pm.

Mulberry Art Studios' sprawling ballroom, the Mulberry Room, will be home to Bentivegna's Nature: Art in Motion. This collection was inspired by the movement of life. The pieces reflect the light, the spirit, and the beauty of creation. Mulberry's Louise Gallery will feature Bentivegna's Warriors body of work, which consists of pieces inspired by her fascination with the multifaceted roles of women. "Women reflect God’s character: justice and mercy, strength and beauty, nurture and protection," explains Bentivegna, "There is power and beauty in the feminine and it’s essence is intuitive." Bentivegna portrays that beauty with color, style, and an open heart.

Ange Bentivegna's formal art education is extensive and impressive! She studied a variety of art styles and methods at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Minnesota, University of Buffalo, and Pennsylvania College of Art & Design- and earned her MFA at Syracuse University. Her professional career as an artist has also been quite varied. She's worked as an illustrator, designer, scenic set designer, and with cancer patients at a cancer center and children's hospital as part of an art residency program for arts-in-medicine. She also shows in galleries and art shows, and has had her work collected for display in businesses, restaurants, health care facilities, and private residences.

"The process of making art gives me a tool to convey my authentic work in this world. It awakens my senses to the beauty and possibilities that life offers. In all aspects of my life and career, creative problem solving has been the essence of my inspiration. Creating Art is an innate expression, a spiritual connections and an essential commission that renews me. I create art that reflects the light, the spirit and the beauty of Life." -Ange Bentivegna

Inspired by Nature

Artist: Velma Magill & Renny Magill

9/7-9/30

Velma Magill, who has exhibited her paintings at Mulberry Art Studios several times in the past, has invited her son Renny Magill to join her for a joint show entitled Inspired by Nature this September. Though their painting styles vary, their work shares commonalities as both artists are engaged in a painting process that is, as the title implies, inspired by nature. The exhibitions will open with First Friday Reception on Sept 7 from 5pm until 9pm. Mulberry Art Studios is located in historic downtown Lancaster and holds gallery hours on weekdays from 10am until 4pm.

Inspired by Nature will include oil and acrylic paintings on canvas and paper. One section of the gallery will be devoted to a “from the studio” section of paintings taken directly from the studio without any framing or matting showing the tactile nature of these works. The pieces evoke nature even if they do not represent it realistically or abstractly. Shapes, textures and colors portray a sense of time, like elements wearing on each other. While on separate artistic journeys, the works are united through connection, and inspiration, of nature.

Velma Magill has been painting from life – both landscape and human figures – for many years. Over the past 20 years she has expanded her visual vocabulary through annual workshops at Art New England, exploring the connection between life drawing and painting and mark making.

Renny starting making abstract paintings as an undergraduate student, and since then has pursued work that explores mark making and mark interruption. His earlier work included acrylic collage that employed “skins” of paint transferred from plastic onto canvas. His most recent work is on paper, and responds through mark making and color to a series of trips he has taken to National Parks throughout the United States.
