“Long-term isolation is unhealthy for the mind, we need more real-world connections.” -Jeremy Lee Rebuck
Isolation, a collection of abstract paintings created during the pandemic by Jeremy Lee Rebuck, will be on display at Mulberry Art Studios this September. The public is invited to join the artist for a First Friday Reception from 5pm until 8pm on Sept 6. Mulberry Art Studios is located in downtown Lancaster at 19-21 N Mulberry St, and offers free parking in their private lot.
Jeremy created the pieces that make up Isolation over the course of four years, during which time he describes himself as alone and badly isolated from everyone. “I share it with the world in hopes of helping, connecting and inspiring others while raising awareness for mental health,” Jeremy states. “Showing the benefits that art and creativity can have on your life.”
Jeremy never considered himself to be an artistic person, but began painting at the beginning of the pandemic while living alone in quarantine. He found painting to be a great outlet for all the emotions he was feeling, and so he started painting on the kitchen floor and never stopped. While his initial goal was simply to make himself feel good and find direction, he eventually realized the value in creating a body of work to share with the community once we were able to gather together again, in the hope of raising awareness for mental health and the benefits that art and creativity can have.
“Creating this collection in isolation, during the course of a global pandemic has taught me a lot about myself and the world around me. It was also my way of dealing with all the emotions I felt during this time,” Jeremy shares. “The process helped free my mind so that I could start thinking for myself. It helped me imagine and start creating a better, more positive life for me and anyone around me.”
