Kevin Bedgood will be returning to Mulberry Art Studios this September with Dreams, his latest collection of sculpted wood art. A First Friday Reception will be held from 5pm until 9pm on Friday, September 3rd, and the exhibit will run until the end of the month.
Dreams is about the future. This show is an exploration of design and relationship concepts, seeking new directions of artistic expression. Kevin has been actively experimenting with new tools and processes, playing with negative space and how it relates to the shapes around it. For him, it is about working with brand new shapes, ideas and studying the visual impact made by his pieces.
“You will notice a variety of "paths" that I have been traveling as I look to the future, all have some similarities,” Kevin says. “Curves and arcs leading to a common destination, pairs of forms that are either opposing each other or leading to each other. These are concepts that I will continue to integrate into future projects.”
Kevin Bedgood has been working with wood since childhood, although the last 25 years has been an intense exploration of the boundaries of woodturning. The primary tool for his sculpting is a wood lathe. A true master of his craft, he is highly sought after as a teacher and demonstrator and has traveled all over the US and as far away as Australia to share his craft.
He regularly pushes beyond the normal limitations of lathe work to produce amazing, large scale pieces. Often his pieces will involve turning multiple pieces of wood; then segmenting them and reassembling the pieces in such a way as to integrate the disparity of design into a coherent piece that creates a sense of movement and evokes an emotional response or memory.
