Jay Gerber: Become
"Become” is the newest collection of work to come from local artist Jay Gerber, and will be exhibited at Mulberry Art Studios throughout the month of August in the North Gallery. Become will open with a First Friday Reception on June 5th, during which time the public is invited to meet the artist and enjoy refreshments while taking in the art. The exhibit will be available during regular gallery hours as well, Monday through Friday from 10am until 4pm.
Gerber is inspired by all paintings that have the element of originality, particularly those that are not easily reproduced by photo or print and must be seen in person. His artwork ranges in oils, pastels, and pencil sketches, but he mostly works with acrylic paint. Most of his paintings are abstract in nature, though he says he often prefers a realistic or formal look. “Most of these paintings (in “Become”) are abstract in nature” Gerber explains, “or have the look of a semi-realistic landscape which have both conventional and irregular shapes.”
Gerber studied design, illustration, photography, and various areas of commercial and fine art at
Pennsylvania School of the Arts, where he upheld a status on the dean's list for the two years. He has been exhibiting his artwork all over Pennsylvania since the late 1970’s, including several at Mulberry Art Studios, and his work has won several awards.
