Nancy Mitchell’s 30 Year Retrospective in Watercolor
“Painting is my life and as long as I have breath and hands to paint with, then that is what I will do.” Nancy Mitchell backs up her statement with a sprawling collection of artwork spanning her thirty year career in an exhibit at Mulberry Art Studios this August. The show opens with a First Friday Opening Reception on August 2nd from 5pm until 9pm, and will be displayed throughout the month of August.
Thirty years ago, in 1983, Nancy Mitchell took her first watercolor class with renowned local artist Gary Greene. She sold her first commissioned piece, Snowy Owl, and began participating in art festivals the next year. She returned to school in 1998 to study art and received her BA in 2002. Nancy Mitchell says she has been “blessed by God and inspired by nature.” Her paintings have subjects that range from landscapes to large cats and small birds. “Art to me is an interpretation of the beauty that God created for us to record” says Nancy. “There is so much in nature. Trees, animals, birds, flowers and much more. Photography records the scene and I interpret the photography.”
