Compeer Lancaster, a non-profit, will host it’s Sixth Annual Art Auction on Friday, May 18th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Mulberry Arts Studios. The purpose of this benefit auction is to raise funds to support mental health recovery in Lancaster County.
“Compeer Lancaster’s annual art auction is our signature fundraising event,” said Amy Sechrist, chair of the auction committee. “When you attend this wonderful evening of music, food, and artwork, which satisfies all of your senses, you support the outcome of our program: social inclusion for people recovering from mental illness. Those of us who enjoy social outlets take for granted our ability to ‘be’ in our communities; to be connected to others in a meaningful way. Compeer provides this core human need to people who previously were isolated, and therefore benefits us all.”
Over 50 pieces of original and limited-edition art of different mediums – including paintings, photography, and pottery – will be auctioned to raise support for mental health services in Lancaster County. Local artists featured will be Paris Llanso, Liz Hess, Gail Gray, Andy Smith, Carol Galligan, Velma Magill, Jim Bowman along with many others. The evening will include classical guitar music and a live artist whose painting will be auctioned at the end of the evening.
The artwork can be previewed on the Compeer Lancaster website beginning May 4th and at the studio from 6:00 – 7:00pm the night of the auction. Some pieces will be available for preview at the studio on First Friday, May 4th. Both the preview and the auction are free and open to the public.
One in every four persons has a treatable and diagnosed mental illness, which equates to 97,000 adults in Lancaster County. Compeer Lancaster supports mental health recovery by matching volunteers with adults recovering from a mental illness to participate in friendship activities. Scientific research has shown that friendship helps people overcome loneliness, isolation, and low self-esteem that often accompany mental illness.
