- November 2010 Art @ Mulberry Art Studios -

Lancaster Veterans Art Project

The Lancaster Veterans Art Project is once again returning to Mulberry Art Studios for a November exhibition.  The exhibit opens on November 5th with a First Friday Reception  from 5pm until 8pm.  This year the Lancaster Veterans Art Project exhibit will feature an Open Auction, which will begin during the First Friday Reception and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday, November 30th.  At the close of the auction, the highest bidder will be contacted and their check will be donated to the veteran charity of their choice, such as the Lancaster Fund for Homeless Veterans.

The Lancaster Veterans Art Project is organized and staffed by veterans who volunteer to recognize and promote the artistic talent of fellow veterans, and is led by Bill Hoin, the Project's Arts Coordinator and an internationally honored artist, craftsman and author.  Hoin has work in several permanent public and private collections, and has exhibited paintings, silkscreen prints and weavings in many local and national shows.  His childhood interest in art was reawakened while serving in Vietnam, as he observed the native craftsman and artists at work.  When he returned home as a veteran with a physical handicap, he found art to be a great therapy and career choice.  "Today I use art to enrich my life and help others find ways to overcome their handicaps in my hometown of Lancaster, Pennsylvania," remarks Hoin.

Parade of Color, the latest collection of work to come from artist Ellen Griesmeyer, will be exhibited in the Louise Gallery at Mulberry Art Studios throughout the month of November.  The public is invited to come meet the artist and view her new body of work at a First Friday Reception on November 5th from 5pm until 8pm.

Ellen completed her courses of studies at ‘DuCret School of the Arts’ in 1976 and continued her studies in Nevad Studios for five years, then began print making at the Hunterdon County Printing Council.  She then studied in the US under various private teachers in New York City and New Jersey.  She has traveled extensively and studied in Europe, Mexico and India.  She relocated to Lancaster County, PA in 1988 and fell in love with the area.  Her studio is in Willow Street where she works full time as a professional artist today.  An ‘Eternal Student of Color’, she works in pastels, oils, watercolors and acrylics.   She has a show once every few years so you won’t want to miss it.

Parade of Color features thirty of her paintings, representing a broad spectrum of painting styles in varied mediums. Included are both small and large works. Some have said that she is the best painter in Lancaster. Come and see for yourself, you will not be disappointed. There is something for everyone in any price range.

Two Dons & a Feather

Carvings by Two Dons & a Feather, an exhibit of the work of three wood carvers, will be in the North Gallery of Mulberry Art Studios throughout the month of November.  Though their perspectives differ, their goal is the same: not perfection, rather to bring life to wood and appreciation, smiles and stimulation to those who see it.  The public is invited to come out and meet the carvers- Don Dearolf, Don Swartz and Jim Feather- at a First Friday Reception on November 5th from 5pm until 8pm. They will also be holding a Sunday Reception from 1-4 on Nov 7.

At Carvings by Two Dons & a Feather, you will be treated to a freedom of expression in wood that comes from a willingness to explore what each carver was feeling and seeing as the carving came to life.  Each carver enlivens his work in different ways and has developed a style that pervades each piece.
